It seems like you hear it all the time from nearly every one you know – “I’m SO stressed out!” Pressures abound in this world today. Those pressures cause stress and anxiety, and often we are ill-equipped to deal with those stressors that trigger anxiety and other feelings that can make us sick. Literally, sick.

Americans Have The Most Stress

The statistics are staggering. One in every eight Americans age 18-54 suffers from an anxiety disorder. This totals over 19 million people! Research conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health has shown that anxiety disorders are the number one mental health problem among American women and are second only to alcohol and drug abuse by men.

Women suffer from anxiety and stress almost twice as much as men. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in America, surpassing even depression in numbers. Anxiety is the most common mental health issue facing adults over 65 years of age. Anxiety disorders cost the U.S. almost fifty billion annually. Anxiety sufferers see an average of five doctors before being successfully diagnosed.

Unfortunately, stress and anxiety go hand in hand. In fact, one of the major symptoms of stress is anxiety. And stress accounts for 80 percent of all illnesses either directly or indirectly.
In fact, stress is more dangerous than we thought. You’ve probably heard that it can raise your blood pressure, increasing the likelihood of a stroke in the distant future, but recently a health insurance brochure claimed that 90 percent of visits to a primary care physician were stress-related disorders.
Health Psychology magazine reports that chronic stress can interfere with the normal function of the body’s immune system. And studies have proven that stressed individuals have an increased vulnerability to catching an illness and are more susceptible to allergic, autoimmune, or cardiovascular diseases.

Doctors agree that during chronic stress, the functions of the body that are nonessential to survival, such as the digestive and immune systems, shut down. “This is why people get sick,” he says. “There are also many occurrences of psychosomatic illness, an illness with an emotional or psychological side to it.”

Furthermore, stress often prompts people to respond in unhealthy ways such as smoking, drinking alcohol, eating poorly, or becoming physically inactive. This damages the body in addition to the wear and tear of the stress itself.
Stress is a part of daily life. It’s how we react to it that makes all the difference in maintaining our health and well-being. Pressures occur throughout life and those pressures cause stress. You need to realize that you will never completely get rid of stress in your life, but you can learn coping techniques to turn that stress into a healthier situation.

Over the next ten days I am going to provide with great tips and advice on how to eliminate stress and anxiety from your life once and for all. So get ready to have a BREAKTHROUGH!!

Anxiety and stress are among the 2 most common sources of work-weariness and complaint among urbanites, corporate managers, and others who go each day to battle in the concrete jungles. Unending streams of jobs and unbeatable cut off dates appear to bump folks close to the edge of resignation, if not from the job itself, but from the facility to meet the assorted expectancies heaped on them at work.

Apart from having to beat the early morning traffic and going off to work sans breakfast, the sheer competition in climbing up the company ladder have got into the best of men in ties and women in heels.

It’s a small wonder, the 21st Century rat rate itself has given off to new and flourishing industries…i.e, the spa and the anti-anxiety medicine enterprises. People who can barely survive in the kitchen thanks to the intense office heat may decide to go to a doctor to get a prescription. But what they have to take each morning would possibly not be the all-too-common multivitamin and minerals in capsule form.

The trip to the doctor was inspired by the necessity to take specific made drugs to calm the nerves. The employment of anti-anxiety drugs is now fast turning into a common process among busy managers who need to remain in charge of their feelings as well as their careers.

Another hip and fashionable way to beat company pressure is by going directly to a spa. For an hour or 2, a hassled business soldier can go in to have spend some time to smash a sweat within a sauna. Within the wooden room with just about enough heat to make you sweat out your body’s poisons, an exhausted executive can sit there for as much as forty five minutes wearing nothing apart from a fresh towel.

Between, sips of water wanted to avoid dehydration, a spa fan can take comfort that he’s sweating away all of the unhealthy parts of what he ate in that power lunch with the department head or the unwished-for calories consumed in the company sales victory party. After perspiring away and feeling a bit lighter, the executive can then carry on to a discreet, aromatic room where his own masseur waits with skillful hands.

The all-too-willing object of the massage can select from a range of strategies : Thai, Japanese Swedish, Acupressure, Reflexology and even Shiamen-Style Foot Massage. All of these massage styles offer relaxing pleasures to the body and mind. Each therapuetic rub and stroke is created to in particular un-tie the knots and bumps from head to toes. Indeed, stress and foreboding are looked at by career-driven people not only as mere physical and emotional distress.

These are now the enemies and difficulties that may make or break someone’s climb to the top. The climb, or more reasonably, the race up the career road has left many otherwise accomplished and talented pros lost, burned out, and out of the game.

Very similar to fiscal capital, gear, technology and facilities — folks are now also looked at as highly valuable factors of production. In truth, it’s the troop of professionals and employees who really make a business run, and not only the Chairperson or company president. Because of this, many companies are now investing more in the fitness and well-being of their folks. By pouring in more greenbacks to look after their best assets, corporations may be able to reduce worker burnout, sick leaves, and executive turnovers. Particularly, stress management may involve one or all the following scientifically-based procedures and strategies : ? Autogenic Treatment ? Cognitive Care ? Exercise ? Meditation ? Progressive Relaxation ? Use of Stress Balls actually, even taking part in sexual practices is thought of as a stress buster — a process that actually beats going to a psychiatrist or stress specialist.

With no regard for the strategy or technique, thrashing stress will remain a further survival talent that every executive or employee must learn to continue and succeed at work. It isn’t merely a matter of losing the blues or releasing stress and wrath.

Working with work-related stresses is critical to maintain one’s health as well to keep one competent and calm in facing the daily battles in the office.

Our life consciousness has several layers of awareness, physical, sensory awareness, extra sensory faculties, emotional feelings and our inner instinct we call intuition. But our mind remains our dominant and constant companion throughout life. We are aware of our thoughts every moment of the day. It is our mind that commands our character and personality, our feelings, our actions and the path we take in life.

So we have to be sure that it is a good relationship and that our thoughts are comfortable. If we harbour painful or aggressive thoughts they will in time manifest as symptoms of psychological ailments. Negative thoughts can be likened to toxic material and therefore threaten our own well being. So we need to have an understanding of our personality nature and how to maintain a state of harmonious co-operation between each aspect of our nature. We need to assure that no negative or unfriendly influences threaten our peaceful state of mind.

Then our minds can instruct and command us wisely, whether it is to solve a problem, to relieve internal stress, to channel our emotions and affections, to urge us to follow our personal goals and disciplines, and to present us with the motivating and positive thought that makes us awaken in the morning with pleasant anticipation of a new day, with all its unknown joys and challenges.

The mind can only do this if our body and brain are healthy. The most damaging factors regarding the body we already know. We are all familiar with the destructive of brain and body caused by alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and chemical pollutant. So on one hand we must avoid the enemy influences and on the other develop fitness programmes that will ensure total health. The healthy state of mental fitness allows us to fully utilize our faculties and talents and lead us into new and interesting studies of nature and the sciences.

The mind under these conditions will be an interesting companion. This is not so if we suffer anxieties and exaggerated concerns beyond what is warranted. Then our thoughts will begin to get out of hand and fill our brain with unwelcome chatter and confused ideas.

Instead of such a likelihood we must ensure our mind is our friend, not an enemy. Learn the natural rules that will ensure our mental fitness and be as eager to follow them as we do our physical health practices.

KRISTINE H asked:

I seem to have a problem with breathing and have been told that I hypoventalate and am suffering from anxiety. I have not been given any advice or help from my doctor on how to deal with this.

SFM answers:

The first step towards dealing with this is to recognize what exactly is causing stress i.e. the stressors. Once you pin point the hidden stressors, you can begin the process of dealing with them. You should also observe the changes that take place in you when you suffer from stress. These may be physical stressors affecting your body or other stressors that attack your mental peace and strength. You can also find out the way you react to situations when you suffer from stress
