Mental Fitness – Leadership Qualities
In perfect mental health and fitness we would look to some display of leadership qualities that are expressed in self confidence, firm conviction and decisive action.
There are other features we look for in a leader, before we can wish to follow such a person.
Mental fitness of course means an absence of abnormal states so we would anticipate no
serious symptoms to be evident in their behaviour.
Leaders are dynamic, with a positive aura that is infectious, encouraging those around to work or behave enthusiastically and energetically.
They are cheerful and optimistic rather than pessimistic and look for, and are capable of finding, solutions to problems.
They are disciplined and deserve the same from those for whom they are responsible or in a position to direct.
Leaders are aware of detail as much as the overview or vision of the ultimate purpose, whether in their own life or in positions of authority.
Such people have clarity of thought and are capable of its serious application as well as having a sense of humour that helps maintain a balanced perspective.
They are ethical and have high moral standards but are capable of understanding those who fail and are always willing to help others.
People will willingly follow a leader – because, in that situation and circumstances, that person is right and engenders confidence in those who choose to comply with his or her defined plans for a shared constructive goal.
We do not all entertain conscious aspiration to become leaders. However, if we are sincerely seeking through self culture to attain a degree of mental fitness and strength, we will all lead others in some manner, perhaps just by example, as in some areas we will always be followers of our ideals and our heroes.
